We are constantly concerned about the future – so much so that we often forget to enjoy the present. The Way of Tea would have us concentrate on today – extracting enjoyment from the moment instead of always waiting for something better to come along.
This philosophy could be realized through something as simple as admiring the beauty of a single flower or the comfort in a cup of tea, to making memories with friends and family in an unhurried, unstructured setting. Teaism does not promote idleness, but it does encourage deliberation in our undertakings and would have us develop an artful aspect to all of our endeavors. Beauty will emerge in the process of forming the achievement, if done with a skill possible only through attention to the artistry necessary to the mastery of the endeavor. The Way of Tea allows us the time to appreciate the inherent beauty in what would otherwise be considered the mundane to the hurried masses.
